Carlos A. Encarnación, M.D., FACP, is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. Dr. Encarnacion is area medical director for Texas Oncology’s locations in Waco. His current interests are breast cancer, clinical genetics, and management of high-risk patients. He participates in the US Oncology Network and Texas Oncology Genetic Risk Evaluation and Testing program. Previously, Dr. Encarnacion served on the Texas Oncology Board of Directors and chaired multiple local hospital committees. He has a research interest in breast cancer and cancer genetics.
Dr. Encarnacion believes you can make appropriate decisions if properly informed. His job is to educate and give you his best recommendations based on current standards of care. He also conveys that the ultimate decision belongs to you. You have the right and responsibility to be active in your medical care and to be you own advocate.
He is also a firm believer in disease prevention through screening and lifestyle changes. Dr. Encarnacion advocates for participation in clinical trials, which is of utmost importance for current patients and future generations. He notes that all the amazing new cancer breakthroughs come from clinical trials from decades past. He gives thanks to previous and current patients who participated in such trials.
