A New and Exciting Form of Cancer Treatment

Mark McLaughlin: Staying Fit for the Fight Against Brain Cancer

Mark McLaughlin visited the emergency room for an unusually sharp headache, where he was diagnosed with glioblastoma mutliforme – an aggressive, baseball-sized tumor in his brain. McLaughlin’s tumor was removed, and he received treatment from neuro-oncologist Dr. Morris D. Groves at the Austin Brain Tumor Center. McLaughlin, a former Wall Street bond trader, has maintained a strict fitness regime following his cancer diagnosis, and he impacts those around him by continuously inspiring hope with a positive attitude.

Dick Ellis was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer just before his 67th birthday, but this longtime news anchor and radio personality put up a profound fight with support from his cancer care team led by Dr. Darren Kocs, a medical oncologist and hematologist at Texas Oncology–Round Rock. Ellis’ mission is to highlight the importance of routine screening procedures, like colonoscopies, for men and women age 50 and older with an average risk for developing colorectal cancer. Dick is responding well to his treatments, and his most recent CT scan came back clear.
