Mani Akhtari, M.D., is board certified in radiation oncology. He has a special research interest in the treatment of lung, breast, and colon cancers. His interest in the intersection of advanced technology and compassionate patient care sparked his journey to radiation oncology. He was particularly drawn to the precision that modern advances in radiation provides, which also minimizing side effects. Witnessing the impactful role radiation therapy plays in improving patient outcomes and quality of life solidified his commitment. Dr. Akhtari cherishes this opportunity every day, and he is inspired by the courage of the people with cancer.
He truly appreciates the deep bonds he makes with the people he treats and their families. Research & Publications
Dr. Akhtari has extensive experience in research relating to several different cancers. As a Sarnoff cardiovascular research fellow at Columbia University, he studied how cholesterol can drive hematopoietic stem cells to proliferate, leading to hematologic malignancies down the line such as leukemia.
Dr. Akhtari also advocated for increased research funding by National Institutes of Health and had a resolution passed in AMA. Currently, he is working to bring his research expertise to Fort Worth. He has several trials in the pipelines for brain tumors (Glioblastoma Multiforme) as well as some potential trials for non-small cell lung cancer.
