Mai Fleury: Master of Calm

"You have to be stress free if you can. Other than that, try to just maintain your wholeness and don’t let the outside bother you."

Mai Fleury
Bone Cancer, Colon Cancer, Lung Cancer

I’m Mai Fleury, and I’m a patient at Texas Oncology at Grapevine. My doctor is Dr. Randall Davis. They’re helping me to get better and recover from cancer of the colon, the left lung, and the sternum.

My yoga practice helps me to maintain my sanity, my health, because with yoga you have to learn to touch your inner self, and when you breathe you have no time to think about anything.

First in the morning, just take ten minutes and breathe in, breathe out, and try to keep your mind clear. That’s the hardest part. You have to be stress free if you can. Other than that, try to just maintain your wholeness and don’t let the outside bother you.

When you have that attitude, I think attitude is a lot to go with it. But of course, the medicine’s important, but you take it as a friend, not that it’s something you’re afraid of.

And I’ll tell you, Texas Oncology-Grapevine, they make it like it’s not a big deal. The nurses, they’re just very calm. “How are you today? You look good!

If I were to encounter someone with cancer that needs some kind of treatment, I would like them to try Texas Oncology because it has done so much for me.

And if you’d like, I’ll pick you up and take you there, and I’ll make sure that you’re treated well.
