BEAUMONT, TEXAS — Texas Oncology will open a 32,000-square-foot cancer care center on the Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth medical campus in Beaumont. The center will provide medical oncology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology, chemotherapy, genetic counseling and lab services.

Texas Oncology (Dallas) broke ground on a new comprehensive cancer care center on the Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth hospital campus, in Beaumont, Texas. The 32,000-square-foot project will provide medical oncology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology, chemotherapy, genetic counseling, and lab services and house double the number of infusion chairs of Texas Oncology’s current facility, a linear accelerator for radiation treatment, and an on-site pharmacy.

Texas Oncology broke ground June 15 on a new 32,000-square-foot cancer care center that will enhance the level of cancer care available to patients in Southeast Texas. Located on the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth hospital campus, the new comprehensive cancer center will provide medical oncology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology, chemotherapy, genetic counseling and lab services, as well as provide clinical trials. Radiation services will be provided in collaboration with CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth.

A cancer diagnosis is not necessarily the death sentence it once was–yet there’s no denying that the personal and professional challenges can be immense. Medical professionals Debra Patt, M.D., Ph.D., MBA, executive vice president, public policy, payer relations, and strategic initiatives, Texas Oncology, Julie Sprunt, M.D., FACS, Texas Breast Specialists–Austin and Bastrop, Michael Teneriello, M.D., FACOG, Texas Oncology–Austin Central and South Austin, and Ryan Tierney, M.D., Texas Oncology–South Austin joined the Austin Business Journal to discuss the Cancer Moonshot Initiative and share about their work to reach a singular goal: to deliver care to cancer patients so they can live their lives on their own terms. The resulting article relays how the four physicians perceive the future of innovation and access to quality cancer care for patients, as well as what Texas Oncology is doing to deliver high-quality, innovative care in a community setting as an example of how Austin physicians can become involved with national initiative.

By spring 2023, Beaumont is set to have a new state of the art cancer care center. Texas Oncology is partnering with Christus for a new, 32,000 square-foot facility on the St. Elizabeth campus.The new center is expected to increase access to leading-edge cancer care, which will allow patients to receive high-quality care with minimal disruption to their lives - bringing cancer care close to home for patients and their loved ones.

Texas Oncology expanded its radiation oncology services in El Paso through an agreement to acquire the radiation assets at Del Sol Medical Center. Texas Oncology will offer an additional site that provides integrated, centralized care to patients whose comprehensive cancer treatment plans include radiation therapy now. 

Within the next year, Southeast Texas cancer patients will have another choice for treatment in the area. Many cancer patients and their families struggle to get care here at home. Many find themselves driving hours back and forth from Houston just to get the care they need. Thanks to Texas Oncology and CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth hospital, patients will soon have another option closer to home.

The Biden administration has set bold goals for this new phase of the cancer Moonshot and, like our next guest, that attitude could take us far. Dr. Alyssa Rieber, a medical oncologist at Texas Oncology–Fredericksburg, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma when she was a medical student and now she's a cancer doctor and also a cancer survivor. Dr. Rieber discussed the importance of support during cancer care and how her faith shapes the way she connects with patients for Newsy's "The Why."

Earlier this month, Texas Oncology opened a new facility in Las Colinas. The new 11,000-square-foot center, located at 7200 State Highway 161, Suite 300, will offer comprehensive cancer services, including medical oncology, hematology, and breast surgery.
