Get To Know Our Newest Hematologist and Medical Oncologist: Dr. Khoan Vu

June 01, 2022

Khoan Vu, M.D., hematologist and medical oncologist, is now seeing patients at Texas Oncology–Presbyterian Cancer Center Dallas. Dr. Vu tells us about what has touched him about working with his patients and life outside of work.

What inspired you to specialize in cancer care?

I was inspired by the close, long-term relationships you develop with the patients and their families. It is truly a privilege to be a part of their lives during such a challenging time and to experience the ups and downs right alongside them throughout their cancer journey.

What has touched you most about the cancer patients you’ve worked with?

What has touched me most about my patients is their perseverance and how they maintain such a positive attitude during one of the most difficult times in their life. My patients are some of the most wonderful people I have met.

If you could tell prospective patients one thing, what would it be?

I would tell my prospective patients that even in the darkest moments, there is always room for hope. No matter what the prognosis may be, I will do whatever it takes for my patients to live a fuller, quality life despite living with cancer.

Where has been your favorite place you have traveled to and why?

There have been so many places I loved visiting! My favorite has to be when I spent a month traveling solo in Japan. It was an amazing, immersive, and cultural experience. I really came to appreciate the culture, people, and food during my time there.

What do you and your family enjoy spending time doing together outside of work?

We enjoy spending time exploring the outdoors. Personally, I love to go hiking. It gives me an opportunity to really unplug and recharge myself while enjoying the beautiful nature around me.

What instruments do you play and how did you get started playing them?

I play the violin and piano and have been playing both instruments since elementary school. Music has always been a lifelong passion of mine and helps me to relieve stress, as well as connect with others who also enjoy music.
