Texas Oncology–Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center Gynecologic Oncology Welcomes Dr. Brandon Sawyer

December 23, 2021

Brandon Sawyer, M.D., gynecologic oncologist, is now seeing patients at Texas Oncology–Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Sawyer discusses his passion for treating women’s cancers and what he looks forward to in the field.

I’m driven to help women and their families manage cancer while developing new, effective therapies to treat it. I’m inspired daily by the strength of our patients."

What inspired you to specialize in gynecologic oncology?

During my medical training, I discovered that I had an early aptitude and growing interest in surgery. I greatly enjoyed developing long-term and meaningful relationships with my patients, and when I discovered gynecologic oncology in my third year of medical school, I instantly knew it was the perfect specialty for me. I’m driven to help women and their families manage cancer while developing new, effective therapies to treat it. I’m inspired daily by the strength of our patients.

What are you most looking forward to as gynecologic oncology treatment continues to evolve?

Our understanding of cancer biology and genetics is rapidly advancing. Recent developments in targeted cancer drugs are extremely encouraging and I look forward to further innovative treatment strategies for our patients.

What do you want your patients to know about you?

It’s important to me that my patients know I feel a deep sense of responsibility to provide the very best cancer care possible. This goes beyond providing the most up-to-date and advanced surgery and medicines available, as I also strive to focus on each patient as a whole. I pride myself in my bedside manner that allows patients time and space to be heard.

What are you regularly tuning into right now?

I enjoy listening to audiobooks while exercising and driving my children between activities. Currently, I’m listening to “Beneath a Scarlet Sky” by Mark Sullivan. Not to give anything away, but it’s a wonderfully engaging story of an Italian teenager who led refugees over the Dolomites during German occupation of Italy during World War II.
