Texas Oncology-Cedar Park and Marble Falls Welcome Dr. Seyed Mohammad Abedi

August 01, 2022

Texas Oncology-Cedar Park and Marble Falls offer a warm welcome to hematologist and oncologist, Seyed Mohammad Abedi, M.D, Ph.D. Dr. Abedi shares what excites him about joining Texas Oncology and why his tea preference may be an “unpopular” opinion among caffeine lovers.

What excites you most about joining an organization like Texas Oncology?

I am excited to join Texas Oncology and be a part of an incredible network that allows physicians like myself the opportunity to practice medicine and focus solely on patient care. I’m also looking forward to utilizing the resources Texas Oncology offers to provide my patients with the standard of cancer care they deserve in today’s complex medical field.

What has working with cancer patients taught you about resiliency of the human spirit?

My patients have taught me how much we can truly endure as human beings. Most of us never really know what we are capable of until we are faced with the unexpected or unknown. Their resilience has taught me how faith, loved ones, and a steadfast support system can help us get through anything.

In your opinion, what is one of the most important breakthroughs in cancer research to date, and how have you seen it change the course of treatment?

In recent years, I think the biggest cancer discovery has been immunotherapy. We are learning more about the genetic makeup of cancer cells and finding new therapies or medications that can help the immune system recognize these cells and target them. Since immunotherapy utilizes the immune system, this form of treatment can be used in addition to chemotherapy by patients of any age.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy spending your time doing?

Aside from spending time with my family, I love learning new hobbies and skills. Woodworking is something I have always enjoyed, and I hope to have a workshop someday. I also enjoy playing a variety of sports such as cycling, soccer, and fishing. Someday soon, I would like to learn how to golf and go hunting.

What are you looking forward to exploring in Cedar Park or Marble Falls?

The natural, outdoor environment in this region of Texas is spectacular and cannot be beat. I would like to explore all the biking and hiking trails, fishing holes, and spend time on the lake with my family – maybe even get the kids involved in water sports.

If you could go back in time, what historical event would you like to witness?

I would love to go back in time and meet any of the well-known religious figures during their time. In addition, I think it would be cool to witness the moment electricity was first discovered or when the Wright brothers first managed to fly their plane.

Are you a coffee or tea person?

This one will make everyone think I am the strangest person alive. The answer is decaffeinated tea. I have only had caffeine for emergencies like the day before a big test or a long drive. Coffee is too bitter for my sweet tooth, no matter how much sugar I add.
