Texas Oncology–McKinney Welcomes Hematologist and Medical Oncologist Namrah Z. Siddiq

August 25, 2023

Namrah Z. Siddiq, M.D., hematologist and medical oncologist, is now seeing patients at Texas Oncology–McKinney. Dr. Siddiq shares the stories of individual patients that have stuck with her, as well as her favorite music genre.

Why did you choose to become an oncologist?

The word "cancer" strikes fear in most people. To be given the privilege of guiding others through such a difficult experience is truly humbling. The advances in treatment and the outcomes of many cancers over the past decade is also extraordinary. I became an oncologist to be a source of comfort and a guide during a pivotal moment in my patients’ lives, and to be a part of the exciting new developments in cancer care. Additionally, most women know of someone who is a breast cancer survivor. I have had two in my own family, which has been a personal motivator to pursue a career in oncology.

What has been a defining moment in your medical education?

While I can't pinpoint a particular defining moment, I do have distinct memories of my patients--the loving husband who fought lymphoma, the young mother with multiple myeloma, the 75-year-old who survived breast cancer twice, and so many more. These patients and their stories inspire me to do my job.

As a physician, what do you want your legacy to be?

I was recently given some advice about the three things that make a good physician, which are "availability, affability, and ability." If I am able to attain a reputation that meets all three of these criteria with my colleagues and my patients, then I will consider myself a successful physician. I hope that when I retire, people are able to say, "she was there, she listened, and she helped me."

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Some of my hobbies include sharing stories with my kids - my toddler has so many interesting ones - traveling, playing with Legos (which started during the pandemic), and playing board games.

What is your favorite music genre?

I enjoy various forms of a cappella music.

If you weren't a doctor what would you be?

I would be a tour guide or a professional trip planner if I wasn’t a doctor.

What is your favorite restaurant in McKinney?

I enjoy going to, or getting takeout from, Noodle Wave. Although I must admit, I haven’t been to the Mckinney location yet!
