Introducing Eric Meyers to Texas Oncology-San Marcos and Kyle

October 06, 2023

Eric Meyers, M.D., hematologist and medical oncologist, is now seeing patients at Texas Oncology—San Marcos and Kyle. Dr. Meyers shares what excites him about his career and who inspires him the most.

What made you want to join an organization like Texas Oncology?

Texas Oncology is one of the leading practices serving patients in the Central Texas region. I was enamored with the high quality of care made possible with multidisciplinary collaboration and its involvement in clinical trials across Texas.

What do you think the future of cancer treatment will look like?

The future is very exciting. I believe we will come to a point where we can sequence the genome of most cancers. With this information, we can search for unique vulnerabilities and tailor our therapies accordingly, allowing us to minimize side effects and optimize treatments.

What excites you most about your career?

The pace with which new discoveries are being made makes this one of the fastest growing fields of medicine. We are making great strides in diseases that previously felt intractable.

Who inspires you?

My father, who has been an endless source of support, wisdom, and strength in my life, is my biggest inspiration.

Do you have a favorite national or state park?

I very much enjoy visiting Guadalupe River State Park here in Texas and often go there in the summer for rafting.

If you could go back in time, what historical event or events would you like to witness?

This question is difficult for me to answer because I'm a huge history buff! First, I would have liked to have been there when Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. Next on my list would be to have seen the ancient city of Palmyra, which was located in modern day Syria. It was a multi-cultural, wealthy civilization in antiquity involved in many trade routes and for a time, even challenged the power of Rome.

What are you looking forward to exploring in San Marcos and Kyle?

I look forward to serving this community and sampling all the high-quality food options I hear such great things about.
