Staying Healthy Moving Forward
It’s important to continue making your health a priority after cancer treatment.
- Schedule an annual visit with your primary care doctor and report any new lumps, bumps, or other changes.
- Get your annual flu shot to boost your immune system.
- Get your annual health screenings.
- Maintain a healthy weight.
- Eat a balanced diet.
- Aim to eat at least two-and-a-half cups of fruits and vegetables per day.
- Reduce your intake of foods high in salt and fat.
- Reduce your consumption of red meat and avoid processed meats.
- Limit sugary drinks and energy-dense foods.
- Opt for whole grains instead of processed or refined grains.
- Limit your alcohol consumption. Women should have no more than one drink and men no more than two drinks per day.
- If you smoke, stop!
- Engage in physical activity. The American Cancer Society recommends healthy adults participate in a minimum of 75 to 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise each week. This should cause you to break a sweat and increase your heart rate. You can break the exercise into 10 minute segments.
- Practice sun safety.
