Staying Healthy Moving Forward

It’s important to continue making your health a priority after cancer treatment.

  • Schedule an annual visit with your primary care doctor and report any new lumps, bumps, or other changes.
  • Get your annual flu shot to boost your immune system.
  • Get your annual health screenings.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Eat a balanced diet.
    • Aim to eat at least two-and-a-half cups of fruits and vegetables per day.
    • Reduce your intake of foods high in salt and fat.
    • Reduce your consumption of red meat and avoid processed meats.
    • Limit sugary drinks and energy-dense foods.
    • Opt for whole grains instead of processed or refined grains.
    • Limit your alcohol consumption. Women should have no more than one drink and men no more than two drinks per day.
  • If you smoke, stop!
  • Engage in physical activity. The American Cancer Society recommends healthy adults participate in a minimum of 75 to 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise each week. This should cause you to break a sweat and increase your heart rate. You can break the exercise into 10 minute segments.
  • Practice sun safety.
