Wichita Falls Woman Says Thanks to Three Special Nurses

Publication: KFDX-TV (NBC), Wichita Falls

This week is all about giving thanks and for one Wichita Falls woman who is battling cancer. This week, she is spending time thanking three very special women.

Dottie Hoover spends three days each week at Texas Oncology Cancer Center.

This Thanksgiving, she says she wants to thank her nurses who go above and beyond each day to make her feel at home while she's getting treated.

"Even though there's a lot of other people here, we are an actual person, we're not just a patient or a number," Hoover says.

Hoover says each day she spends at Texas Oncology is a blessing because of her nurses.

"They absolutely bring out your personality. They tease you, they make sure that it's more like a sisterhood," Hoover says.

Dottie was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in August and has been receiving treatment since the end of September.

It's that sisterhood that Dottie says keeps her wanting to go to her treatment days week after week.

"I spent 6 hours here the first day and they made sure that I was comfortable and aware of all of the procedures that was going to go on and they never left my side," Hoover says.

That's something she says has made her treatment experience a positive one..

That's why Dottie says this thanksgiving she is thankful for her three nurses, and she's encouraging others who may be in similar situations to spend time thanking their nurses and caregivers who often are under-appreciated.

"Thank them because they're unsung heroes, really and truly they are. They're just an amazing bunch of people and we can't be anywhere close to being healthy without them," Hoover says.
