Pediatric hematology-oncology focuses on the treatment of cancers and blood disorders affecting children. At Texas Oncology, we treat children and young adults up to age 21. Childhood cancer is uncommon. In Texas, more than 1,800 children under age 20 are diagnosed with cancer annually. Among those diagnosed with childhood cancer, the following are most common: leukemia, neuroblastoma, brain cancers, lymphomas, Wilms’ tumor, bone cancers, germ cell tumors, rhabdomyosarcoma, and retinoblastoma.
Symptoms of Childhood Cancer
- An unusual lump or mass
- Unusual swelling
- Unexplained paleness
- Lack of energy
- Easy bruising
- Persistent pain in one area of the body
- Limping
- Unexplained fever
- A prolonged illness
- Frequent headaches, often with vomiting
- Sudden eye or vision changes
- Unexplained weight loss
- Unexplained bleeding or rash
