Texas Oncology–Bedford and Grapevine Welcome Dr. Tri Le

August 24, 2021

Tri Le, M.D., hematologist and medical oncologist, is now seeing patients at Texas Oncology–Bedford and Grapevine. Dr. Le shares his passion for cancer care and what he looks forward to in the field.

What inspired you to specialize in cancer care?

As a medical student, I was inspired by the medical oncologists and patients I worked with. The clinicians were compassionate, active listeners, intelligent, academically curious, and strong collaborators with providers across several disciplines. The patients showed me how strength and resilience look different for everyone. Some patients had spirits full of fight. Some sought a safe space with their doctors to cope, emotionally and intellectually, with their diagnoses or complications. Some stoically sought objective information to process at their own pace. As I observed the vastly different clinical scenarios and patients, I knew this was a special group of people and my calling was in cancer care.

The field of cancer and blood disorders lives at the border of scientific innovation, bringing research from the laboratory, clinical trials, and real-world observational studies to the clinic and patient community at an astounding pace."

What excites you most about your career?

The field of cancer and blood disorders lives at the border of scientific innovation, bringing research from the laboratory, clinical trials, and real-world observational studies to the clinic and patient community at an astounding pace. These constant advancements in our knowledge of cancer biology and pharmacotherapy enable the principle of lifelong learning to translate into meaningful benefit for our patients.

Do you have any family members in the medical field?

My wonderful wife is an advanced practice provider (APP) specializing in otolaryngology. I have been beyond fortunate to have found an amazing partner who, in addition to being an incredible mother to our son, has supported my career through the lens of someone with an intimate knowledge of the world of medicine. We have also been blessed with the opportunity to learn from each other about how physicians and APPs can work together to create a respectful, collaborative environment that supports our patients and our healthcare team.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family. My wife and I love to travel and explore new cultures, architecture, and cuisines. We have a young son who is learning about the world, and a goofy but absolutely loveable golden retriever and poodle mix.

Where is your favorite place you’ve ever visited?

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Japan. We traveled around Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka and cannot wait to return to see more!
