Texas Oncology to Expand Radiation Oncology Services in El Paso Through Acquisition from Del Sol Medical Center

EL PASO, Texas (June 15, 2022) – Texas Oncology announced today the expansion of its radiation oncology services in El Paso through an agreement to acquire the radiation assets at Del Sol Medical Center. The acquisition will enable Texas Oncology to offer an additional site that provides integrated, centralized care to patients whose comprehensive cancer treatment plans include radiation therapy. In addition to a linear accelerator that delivers external beam radiation treatment, the site—located at 10460 Vista Del Sol—also provides PET/CT, an important imaging tool used to diagnose and evaluate tumors.

“Our priority is providing compassionate and effective multidisciplinary cancer care to patients in the El Paso region,” said Inez Sanchez-Rivera, M.D., medical director of Texas Oncology in El Paso. “Adding the Del Sol Medical Center radiation services to Texas Oncology’s comprehensive array of services reflects our commitment to continue to meet the growing need for leading-edge cancer care in our community.”

“We are proud of the care we’ve provided to radiation oncology patients over the years, and we’re pleased to know that this effort with Texas Oncology will expand cancer care services to El Pasoans who need it,” said Brian Allen, chief operating officer of Del Sol Medical Center. “Texas Oncology is a long-time cancer care provider in the city, and this acquisition will help them provide that specialized care to even more patients.”

The transition will begin later this summer and will include a renovation project by Texas Oncology, which will require the location to close temporarily. Texas Oncology and Del Sol Medical Center will work collaboratively to seamlessly transition current patients, so their treatment continues without interruption. Patients will work with a clinical transition team to transfer their radiation treatment to one of Texas Oncology’s current locations until the site reopens later this year. Texas Oncology also is working with Del Sol Medical Center to transfer staff, as appropriate.

Texas Oncology has provided comprehensive cancer care in El Paso since 1996 and currently has 12 physicians on staff, including two radiation oncologists, Anu Gupta, M.D., and Stephanie Han, M.D. An additional radiation oncologist will join Texas Oncology in July.

The site will be Texas Oncology’s fourth location in El Paso. Current locations are:
