    Holiday Crunch Time

    Ingredients:

    The holidays are often hailed as the peak season for indulgence, but there’s no better way to celebrate than with delicious and nutritious foods. Texas Oncology encourages healthy holiday eating with Holiday Crunch Time, an easy-to-make recipe that brings together a wholesome mix of walnuts, cranberries, and dark chocolate for a simple twist on an everyday trail mix.

    Holiday Crunch Time is a blend of cancer-fighting ingredients. Cranberries are a powerful source of flavonoids, a family of phytonutrients with antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. Nuts are dense bundles of cancer-fighting nutrition -- phytonutrients, fiber, "good" fats, protein, and a host of vitamins and minerals, such as folic acid, vitamin E, and selenium. Dark chocolate is also a powerful antioxidant.

    • 2 ½ cups raw walnut halves or pieces
    • 2 ½ cups sweetened, dried cranberries
    • 1 cup dark chocolate disks (73.5 percent cacao, such as El Rey)

    Instructions:

    • Combine walnuts, cranberries, and dark chocolate disks in large bowl.
    • Mix as desired and serve.
    • Makes 6 cups.
