About
Vinu Madhu, M.D., is board certified in medical oncology, hematology, and palliative medicine. He earned his medical degree with distinction from the University of Kerala in 2004. During medical school, he participated in a Global Health student exchange program with Karolinska University in Stockholm, Sweden. He later pursued a Master of Science in Molecular Biology at West Virginia University, where his research focused on breast cancer.
Dr. Madhu completed fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine, as well as Hematology and Medical Oncology, at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. During his training, he was honored with a Fellow Research Award. He further advanced his expertise by completing a fellowship in Cancer Drug Development at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he contributed to the design of clinical trials that led to the approval of new cancer therapies.
Board-certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Hospice and Palliative Care, Dr. Madhu brings extensive clinical experience across diverse healthcare settings. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at the Mays Cancer Center/UT Health San Antonio, where he was the lead medical oncologist at the UT Health Sarcoma Center. Prior to joining Texas Oncology, he was the Medical Director of the Cancer Center at Uvalde Memorial Hospital, where he played a key role in revitalizing the oncology clinic and also served as the Alternate Hospice Medical Director. Dr. Madhu is actively involved in cancer clinical trials and has authored several peer-reviewed research publications.
He is a strong advocate for shared decision-making in cancer care, emphasizing the importance of patients as equal partners in developing personalized treatment plans. He is committed to providing holistic care that respects each patient’s unique background and goals.
Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Madhu enjoys reading about economics and history and spending quality time with his family.
