Texas Oncology Telemedicine & Virtual Care

Virtual care is healthcare that is delivered remotely through digital health tools and technologies. In recent years, telemedicine and virtual care have been integrated as important and valuable methods for Texas Oncology clinics to deliver safe, timely, and comprehensive access to cancer care.

Texas Oncology virtual care expands our approach to community-based care, making many services accessible from the comfort of home. We are proud to offer access to highly specialized care through a variety of virtual care programs that are integrated with our local office care teams, and we are committed to recreating the in-person experience as best possible with every virtual care contact. Visit www.texasoncology.com/virtualcare to learn more.

Telemedicine

Telemedicine enables physicians to connect directly with patients who need highly specialized medical care, whether across town or across the state. With telemedicine, patients across Texas have access to our extensive and diverse expertise and a broader array of treatment options.

Telemedicine is a great choice for patients who want or need to continue care from the comfort and safety of their homes. This is especially important for those who are immunocompromised. Telemedicine can also reduce travel time and expense for patients.

Texas Oncology providers will determine which visits are medically appropriate for telemedicine. Visit www.texasoncology.com/telemedicine to learn more such as what to expect in a telemedicine visit and how to book an appointment.

Virtual Advanced Practice Provider Clinic

Texas Oncology care teams include advanced practice providers (APPs) such as physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse specialists who provide services in partnership with physicians, including assessment, symptom management, coordinating treatment plans, obtaining diagnostic tests and labs, and prescribing medications. Texas Oncology’s virtual APP clinic expands patient access, supporting Texas Oncology locations across the state when they need additional staff to serve patient needs.

Texas Oncology’s virtual APP clinic provides patients access to:

  • Virtual urgent care visits within one to two hours of patient need
  • Advance care planning
  • Genetic counseling
  • Treatment review and coordination when starting new treatment plans
  • Established patient visits
All appointments for the virtual APP clinic are booked through the local Texas Oncology clinic.

Virtual Nurse Triage

This new program offers patients access to a pool of Texas Oncology nurses who provide triage support for various Texas Oncology clinics. Triage nurses are dedicated to patient support, promptly answering questions and discussing symptoms and concerns that cannot wait until the next in-person appointment. Virtual triage nurses are an extension of local care teams and ensure patients receive comprehensive and personalized care.

Telehealth

Virtual nutrition counseling with registered dieticians and virtual counseling with licensed clinical social workers is now available to patients of some clinics. Ask your care team if these services are available to you or learn more at www.texasoncology.com/services-and-treatments/supportiveservices.

Virtual support groups are available to all Texas Oncology patients. Learn more at www.texasoncology.com/patients/resources/support-groups.
