COVID-19 Testing Information

COVID-19 tests are not conducted at Texas Oncology clinics. If needed, our staff will direct you to the nearest testing site. As of March 13, the following private labs are offering, or will shortly begin offering, COVID-19 testing:

Anderson

  • No drive-thru testing facilities available at the moment
  • If you have symptoms, please call your primary care physician or emergency department before showing up at the hospital
    • If the screening guidelines are met, all hospitals in the area will be able to swab and send for testing.
  • People with no health insurance have the option of getting tested.  Call 2-1-1, and select "Option 6".  They will direct you to low-cost or no-cost providers in your area. 
  • Palestine Family Medicine
    • Drive-thru testing available for Anderson County and surrounding counties on Friday May 1, 2020.
    • To reserve your time, call 903-7331-5030 to pre-register no later than Thursday, April 30, 2020 by 5:00pm.
    • People who qualify must be symptomatic or have had known exposure to a positive person.

Atascosa

  • Metropolitan Health
    • The Metropolitan Health District is asking that physician offices test for flu and strep first and if negative, order the COVID-19 test and send to a commercial lab like Quest or Labcorp to be tested.
      • Quest and Labcorp do not collect the specimen.
      • Sometimes COVID-19 tests can take up to 7 days for results.
    • COVID 19 testing is available only for individuals who have been pre-approved by a doctor. All individuals must have an appointment.
  • Texas MedClinics
    • Testing available on all sites including 24-hour clinics
    • Texas MedClinic will use the following criteria to prioritize testing of persons at risk of COVID-19:
      • Priority 1: Ensure optimal care options for all hospitalized patients, lessen the risk of nosocomial infections, and maintain the integrity of the healthcare system.
        • Hospitalized patients
        • Symptomatic healthcare workers
        • First responders with symptoms
        • Symptomatic staff working in high-risk congregate settings (i.e. correctional facilities, homeless shelters)
      • ​Priority 2: Ensure that those who are at highest risk of complication of infection are rapidly identified and appropriately triaged:
        • Patients in long-term care facilities with symptoms
        • Patients 65 years of age and older with symptoms
        • Patients with underlying conditions with symptoms
        • Critical infrastructure workers with symptoms (i.e. SAWS, CPS energy, airport, VIA)
      • Priority 3: As resources allow, test individuals in the surrounding community of rapidly increasing hospital cases to decrease community spread, and ensure health of essential workers.
        • Individuals who do not meet any of the above categories with symptoms
        • Health care workers and first responders
        • Individuals with mild symptoms in communities experiencing high COVID-19 hospitalizations
      • Non-Priority: Individuals without symptoms

    • A unique partnership between MedStar and Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) will send specially trained MedStar personnel into resident’s homes who are being monitored for COVID-19, to complete a medical assessment and collect the sample needed for TCPH to conduct additional testing.
    • TCPH will provide MedStar with the test kits and a list of people who may require in-home testing.
    • TCPH will retain the responsibility of notifying the resident the results of the test.
