About
Michelina Cairo, M.D., is board certified in medical oncology. Dr. Cairo has a special clinical and research interest in breast cancer. During her fellowship, she pursued a special breast cancer research track to devote a full year of her training to breast cancer treatment and research. She contributed to original research published in the Journal of Breast Cancer Research. She did additional training in breast cancer and sarcoma at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Her commitment to health education began at Yale, where she developed a teen health peer education program in New Haven middle schools. It continued into her research in Senegal where she studied the effect of women's health education on adoption of new health practices. She currently conducts research to discover more effective treatments for breast cancer. Taking into account the fingerprint, or molecular subtype, of each cancer, they can apply leading-edge medicines as well as research treatments. Her office provides this high level of clinical care while maintaining a warm, supportive environment where each person’s voice is heard. Their team approach enhances real-time communication between all doctors on your oncology team in order to streamline your experience.
