About
Alfredo A. Santillan, M.D., MPH, is board certified in general surgery with a specialty in surgical oncology. He is fully devoted to the fields of oncology and endocrine surgery. Prior to joining Texas Oncology, Dr. Santillan-Gomez served for seven years as an associate professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery at The University of Texas Health at San Antonio. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Santillan’s expertise includes oncologic and endocrine surgery, with an emphasis on surgical diseases of the breast, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands, colon, pancreas, melanoma, and sarcoma. He has practiced in San Antonio since 2009 and is recognized as a leader in cancer and endocrine surgery with extensive surgical experience. He is a Hidden Scar-trained surgeon specializing in advanced minimally invasive and remote-access surgical techniques that deliver optimal clinical and aesthetic outcomes for patients with breast cancer. He is also one of the few high-volume thyroid surgeons in South Texas, performing more than 100 thyroid surgeries annually in accordance with American Thyroid Association guidelines. Dr. Santillan has earned the Adult Complex Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery Focused Practice Designation from the American Board of Surgery, a distinction awarded to surgeons who dedicate a significant portion of their practice to the management of complex thyroid and parathyroid disorders. This designation recognizes advanced expertise and a commitment to delivering high-quality, specialized care for patients with endocrine conditions. A co-author of numerous publications and research projects, Dr. Santillan maintains a special interest in cancer biology and epidemiology.
