About
David J. Friedman, M.D., Ph.D., is board certified in hematology and internal medicine. Dr. Friedman was born and trained as a physician in South Africa. He gained experience in both rural and sophisticated urban medicine. He initially trained as a pediatrician when he came to the United States to complete a University of Chicago doctoral program. Dr. Friedman then completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He conducted research at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia. He then joined the hematology faculty at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He led the bone marrow transplant programs at the university and the local Veterans Administration (VA) hospital. For 10 years, Dr. Friedman was director of the bone marrow transplant program at Cook Children's in Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Friedman shifted his focus to adult hematology/oncology when he joined Texas Oncology in San Antonio.
Dr. Friedman is an avid fly fisherman.
