Medical Oncology, Hematology

Charles Kurkul, M.D., is board certified in hematology, medical oncology, and internal medicine.
Dr. Kurkul's goal is to make complex medical information understandable. A new diagnosis can be overwhelming, and patients are often faced with unfamiliar terminology, urgent decisions, and an abundance of information. He believes his role is to help patients understand their diagnosis, explore realistic treatment options, and understand what each choice may mean for their lives.
His approach is direct, thoughtful, and collaborative. While he values evidence-based medicine, he recognizes that exceptional oncology care extends beyond selecting the appropriate treatment regimen. It requires understanding each patient as an individual—their goals, concerns, family responsibilities, and what matters most to them when making treatment decisions.
Dr. Kurkul is especially committed to providing high-quality hematology and oncology care in the community setting, allowing patients to receive advanced treatment close to home. In addition to caring for patients, he teaches medical residents and serves as chair of a hospital ethics committee. These roles reflect his commitment to clear communication, thoughtful decision-making, and helping patients and clinicians navigate complex situations with compassion, humility, and respect.
