Texas Oncology is the nation’s largest community-based oncology provider, with more than 550 physicians caring for patients in 300 locations across the state, Texas Oncology is right here for you, wherever you may be.

Our integrated pharmacy services are nationally recognized and form a cornerstone of our commitment to patient-centered care. With more than 70 pharmacists and 130 technicians operating across 43 sites, Texas Oncology fills more than 220,000 prescriptions annually for more than 66,000 patients, offering both in-clinic and mail-order services designed around convenience, safety, and clinical excellence.

Rotation Experiences

The residency is designed to provide broad exposure to oncology pharmacy practice while allowing for focused skill development.

Core Rotations Include:

• Oral Outpatient Oncology: Management of oral chemotherapy and immunotherapy, patient counseling, and adherence optimization.

• IV/Infusion Oncology: Sterile compounding, infusion safety, and patient monitoring.

• Supportive Care: Symptom management, toxicity mitigation, and quality-of-life interventions.

• Disease-State Rotations: Lung, GI, breast, GU, hematologic malignancies, melanoma, and pediatric oncology.

• Oncology Pharmacy Business & Leadership: Financial stewardship, GPO models, legislative issues, and pharmacy operations.
• Research (Longitudinal): Design, execute, and present a clinical research or outcomes-based project at the NCODA Spring Forum.

Residents also participate in journal clubs, CE presentations, and clinical case discussions throughout the year.

Research & Scholarly Work

Each resident completes a longitudinal research project focused on advancing oncology pharmacy practice. Resident will work closely with a research advisor on the following:

• Develop a project proposal and obtain necessary approvals
• Conduct data collection and analysis
• Present results at the NCODA Spring Forum
• Prepare a manuscript suitable for publication

Topics often explore real-world oncology challenges such as medication safety, workflow optimization, or patient outcomes.

Application Information

Eligibility Requirements

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited program
• U.S. citizenship or appropriate visa status
• Eligibility for Texas pharmacist licensure (must be obtained by October 31 of the residency year)
