Patient Voices: Andi, Angela and Tonia
Patient Voices: Andi, Angela and Tonia
Overview
Three neighbors-turned-best friends — Tonia, Angela, and Andi — met in a way that felt like a scene pulled straight from a movie. At similar stages in life, balancing careers while raising children close in age, they quickly bonded over shared interests and schedules. What began as a casual neighborly interaction grew into a deep, loving friendship.

In 2018 this friend group was rocked with a shocking sweep of bad news: within a few years of one another, all three women were diagnosed with breast cancer. “Cancer is an awful thing to go through, but when you’re watching someone you care about go through it, you just want to take it from them,” Angela said. Beyond the physical toll, the diagnoses brought intense emotional strain. The odds of three friends in the same circle being diagnosed with the same cancer within a few years of each other and how they rallied to support each other is what makes this story beautifully unique.
Thankfully, Tonia, Angela, and Andi found strength in one another, drawing comfort from shared fears, milestones, and insights no one else could fully understand. Despite having a support system, cancer can feel deeply isolating; however, their friendship proved how powerful shared experience can be. Today, the three women stress the importance of early detection, encouraging regular mammograms and monthly self-breast exams. “I wouldn’t be here today if I didn’t do mammograms,” Angela emphasized. They hope this message will resonate with others.
