Education

Dr. Perkins received his medical degree from the University of Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa, and completed his internship in internal medicine and surgery followed by his residency in internal medicine at Johannesburg Hospital. In 1983, he was a staff physician at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Dallas and in 1984 was a senior resident in internal medicine at St. Paul Medical Center in Dallas.

In 1987, Dr. Perkins was a fellow in oncology/hematology at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and, in 1990, was an instructor at UT Southwestern Medical School in the Department of Internal Medicine. From 1990 to 1992, Dr. Perkins was the Director of the Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Zale-Lipshy Hospital in Dallas, and prior to joining Texas Oncology, was in private practice. Dr. Perkins has authored and co-authored numerous articles in peer reviewed journals as well as presenting at national conferences.

Accolades & Memberships

In 1987, Dr. Perkins was the recipient of the American Cancer Society's Career Development Award and in 1991 received a Research Grant from the American Heart Association.

Dr. Perkins specializes in general adult oncology, head and neck, breast, prostate, bladder, kidney, lymphoma and lung cancers.

Dr. Perkins is married with three sons and one daughter. He is interested in reading (literature, history, economics, science), music, soccer (mainly English Premier League) and art (painting and drawing).
