Spanner Award in Psychiatry and the Hewlett-Packard Medical Graduate Award, fourth in medical class; rotating internship at Holy Cross Hospital, Calgary, Alberta 1988-1989; residency in internal medicine at University of Alberta 1990-1993; hematology/oncology fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas 1993-1996, where he was also Chief Fellow from 1995-1996.
