Introducing Tiffany Masters Redfern to Texas Oncology–South Austin
Dr. Tiffany Masters Redfern shares cancer breakthroughs and highlights her dedication to advancing women’s health advocacy.
Tiffany Masters Redfern, M.D., FACOG, gynecologic oncologist, is now seeing patients at Texas Oncology–South Austin. Dr. Redfern shares what inspired her to specialize in gynecologic oncology and her hobbies outside of work.
1.What inspired you to specialize in gynecologic oncology?
I was drawn to the field of gynecologic oncology because of how multifaceted it is. Gynecologic oncologists are unique in that we are both medical oncologists and surgical oncologists. This enables us to develop long-term and meaningful relationships with patients, and I love getting to provide quality, evidence-based care in such a supportive environment.
2. In your opinion, what is one of the single most important breakthroughs in cancer research to date and how have you seen it change the course of treatment?
Breakthroughs in molecular testing with targeted treatments such as immunotherapy and antibody drug conjugates have changed the landscape of oncology. Being able to individualize treatment based on a patient’s specific tumor allows for more personalized treatment plans and better treatment options. These are the types of breakthroughs that help us raise the standard of care and extend lives!
3. What moment has touched you most as a medical professional?
Over the course of my career, there have been so many moments that moved me and helped shape the doctor I am today. My patients inspire me every day, and it is an honor to get to take care of them on their journey.
4. What is a social cause you’re passionate about?
I love serving as an advocate for women’s health and educating people about gynecologic health in particular. There are many misconceptions out there, and raising awareness about health maintenance, cancer prevention, and signs and symptoms of cancer can help decrease cancer incidence and support early detection.
5. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what is the one thing you could not live without?
Obviously, I would need fresh water and food, but life without dessert might be unbearable!
6. What is something most people don’t know about you?
I enjoy aviation and hope to get my pilot's license soon!
7. What are you regularly tuning into right now (e.g., podcast, show, music, book, etc.)?
I'm currently (and usually) on a reading binge. I recently finished Atomic Habits by James Clear. I highly recommend it!
