Gary B. Weiss, M.D., Ph.D. received a Summer Humanities Award from National Endowment for the Humanities; a grant from National Cancer Institute; a grant from the University of Texas Medical Branch Cancer Center in Galveston, Texas; a National Student Research Forum Certificate of Special Appreciation; the Nellie Westerman Prize, honorable mention; and a grant from American Cancer Society Institutional Research Committee. Since 1977, he has also served in numerous teaching positions at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Education

Dr. Weiss received his M.D. in 1971 at New York University School of Medicine in New York City, and a Ph.D. at New York University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 1972. He completed an internship in straight medicine in 1972 at the University of California in San Francisco, and a residency in internal medicine at the same institution in 1973. From 1973 to 1976, he was a Research Associate at National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1977.
