10/31/2023- “In my 26 years as an oncologist, I’ve seen about five men with breast cancer,” says Carlos A. Encarnación, M.D., FACP, Texas Oncology-Hamilton and Horizon Circle. Dr. Encarnación joins KCEN-TV (NBC, Temple) to talk about the rarity of male breast cancer yet the importance of men recognizing the signs and symptoms to catch the disease early.

7/2/2023- David Mocio was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma in 2015 and receives immunotherapy every 28 days. David spoke with the Waco Tribune-Herald saying he credits the treatment with saving his life, and studies have shown immunotherapy to be more effective than chemotherapy or radiation therapy against melanoma. Dr. Carlos Encarnacion, Texas Oncology-Hamilton and Horizon Circle shared with the outlet that immunotherapy is one of the biggest advancements in oncology in recent years, and the number of patients treated with immunotherapy has grown exponentially in the past decade.

6/26/2023- David Mocio, former naval pilot and 7-time marathoner was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma in 2015 and receives immunotherapy every 28 days, which has halted his cancer from spreading further, since his diagnosis. With June being the cross-section of Men’s Health Month and Immunotherapy Awareness Month, David and Dr. Carlos Encarnacion, Texas Oncology-Hamilton and Horizon Circle joined KXXV-TV (ABC, Waco) to raise awareness about taking care of yourself, not ignoring any glaring symptoms and provided viewers with insights on proper screenings.

10/30/2022- Like many women, cancer took a toll on Waco resident Heather Fields, patient of Dr. Carlos A. Encarnación, M.D., FACP, Texas Oncology-Hamilton and Horizon Circle. At the age of 42, in late 2019, Heather was diagnosed with breast cancer and embarked on a journey that impacted herself, family, loved ones and how she viewed her body image. With her loss of hair, she felt she lost her identity. Throughout her journey Heather realized that hair does not define you and now advocates for anyone diagnosed with breast cancer to embrace the new skin their in and have grace for their body as they fight this disease.

10/27/2022- Battling breast cancer and going through treatments like chemotherapy can take a toll on one’s physical and emotional health as well as affect how patients feel about their body. Waco resident, Heather Field, and patient of Carlos A. Encarnación, M.D., FACP, Texas Oncology-Hamilton and Horizon Circle remembers feeling insecure about her body during her battle with breast cancer. “I would wake up every morning and think I don’t have any hair and think, ‘wow I have cancer,’” said Heather. “It’s just that image you face everyday that you actually do have cancer.” Heather and Dr. Encarnación join KWTX-TV (CBS, Waco) to talk about the importance of breast cancer awareness and need to schedule your regular mammogram appointments.
