Joselin Anandam Matthews, M.D., FACS

Joselin Anandam Matthews, M.D., FACS, is board certified in colon and rectal surgery and general surgery. She served as an academic surgeon for nine years before joining Texas Colon & Rectal Specialists. Dr. Matthews participated in anal and colon cancer research in young people to identify better earlier detection methods.

Dr. Matthews followed an older cousin into medicine and became interested in surgery during medical school. She specialized in colorectal surgery because of the variety of diseases involved and the variety of procedures offered. It’s rewarding to her when people feel much better after her care. When she receives hugs from people she treats and positive verbal feedback, it makes the many years of training worth it. She is a keen advocate for robotic surgery. To help people recover faster, she helped build the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol used by Texas Colon & Rectal Specialists and UT Southwestern. Dr. Matthews’ approach to patient care is evidence-based, but personalized. She shares treatment options, along with the pros and cons, so that her patients can make informed decisions.

She enjoys traveling, weight-lifting to stay strong, Latin dance classes, and attending church and church marriage group. She appreciates staying balanced in her life.
