How long does a breast biopsy take?
A fine needle aspiration or core needle biopsy in the office is a quick procedure that typically takes about a half hour. Biopsies using mammogram and MRI guidance take longer, usually about 2 hours.

In the U.S., only about 20% of biopsies find cancer.
How long do breast biopsy results take?
Most biopsy results are back within 1 week, but some take longer. Your doctor will let you know what to expect.

How long does a breast biopsy take to heal?
A needle biopsy may cause minor bleeding, swelling, or bruising. These symptoms are normal. Bleeding and swelling usually go away within a few days to 1 week. Bruising may take a bit longer to heal.
