TEXAS ONCOLOGY–KERRVILLE WELCOMES THOMAS TUCKER

April 12, 2024

Thomas Tucker, M.D., hematologist and medical oncologist, is now seeing patients at Texas Oncology–Kerrville. Dr. Tucker discusses why he chose to join an organization like Texas Oncology and shares some of his favorite movies.

Why did you choose to become an oncologist?

When I was in medical school, and even more while in residency training, I found that I felt most useful and valuable as a physician when taking care of patients with cancer and blood disorders. That spurred my decision to become an oncologist.

What would you like your legacy as a physician to be?

I would like my legacy to be a reminder for doctors and other healthcare workers that we should always put the patient first.

What made you want to join an organization like Texas Oncology?

Texas Oncology has the utmost standards of any oncology group. It is a high-quality organization that completely aligns with the legacy I mentioned of always putting the patient first.

Where is your favorite place you’ve ever visited?

Many people would say that their favorite place is an exotic vacation destination. While I do love that kind of location, my favorite places to visit are those where I have lived previously, such as Dallas, Boston, Arkansas, and the state of Washington.

What is your most prized possession?

My most prized living possessions are my two Siberian Huskies, Coco and Tilly. My most prized non-living possession is an original James Bond movie poster for the movie “Thunderball,” which is the first Bond movie I ever saw.

What would the title of your autobiography be?

The title of my autobiography would probably be called “My Life, In and Out of Medicine.”

What is your favorite movie?

Wow! I have so many favorites that I can’t name just one. Here are my top five: “Midnight in Paris,” “Moonstruck,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “The Godfather,” and “Singin’ in the Rain.”
