Season of Hope

December 20, 2021

A message to our patients, their loved ones, and friends of Texas Oncology:

The holidays offer all of us time to come together with friends and family, along with the opportunity to reflect on the year that’s gone by – and what a year it’s been. The roller coaster ride of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic remains a daunting, wearying challenge. And all the more so for our patients and their loved ones who also must contend with a cancer diagnosis.

Surrounding cancer patients with help and hope during the holiday season is important and worthwhile. As cancer care providers, we see the many positive benefits for patients who enjoy committed, caring support. I’m thankful for all those who support our patients year-round, including primary caregivers, who are unsung heroes, as well as our care teams at Texas Oncology, who have special passion for addressing our patients’ needs.

With uncertainty ahead regarding COVID-19 variants, we urge you continue to be mindful of safety, especially since many cancer patients also are immunocompromised and therefore vulnerable. Our patients also may be emotionally vulnerable when confronting serious illness during the holidays, which can evoke feelings of sadness or nostalgia, made more difficult with added restrictions on travel or indoor gatherings.

In the spirit of supporting each other, I hope our resources can serve as a helpful guide for you and your loved ones as you celebrate the season. Whether cherishing old traditions or creating new memories, the series of articles listed below offer advice and tips for engaging with your friend who has cancer.

As we remember the challenges of this year, I continue to be inspired by the perseverance and strength of our patients and our staff. We are on this journey together and our commitment to you is steadfast. On behalf of all of us at Texas Oncology, I wish you a happy holiday and a wonderful new year.
