Welcome Dr. Rebecca Yarborough to Texas Oncology–Methodist Dallas Cancer Center

August 31, 2021

Rebecca Yarborough, M.D., medical oncologist and hematologist, has joined Texas Oncology–Methodist Dallas Cancer Center. Dr. Yarborough tells us about the joy she finds in learning from, and building lasting relationships with, her patients.

What excites you most about joining an organization like Texas Oncology?

My favorite thing about Texas Oncology is how closely we are connected to the communities we serve. The ability to provide high quality, multidisciplinary care near our patients’ homes is invaluable. As oncologists, we strive to give patients more time through our treatments, and I’m grateful to give them the opportunity to spend more of that time at home amongst their family, friends, and support systems.

I am continually in awe of my patients’ attitudes, strength, and determination."

What has working with cancer patients taught you about resiliency in the human spirit?

I am continually in awe of my patients’ attitudes, strength, and determination. Each day in a cancer journey brings new challenges and joys, and I’ve learned that every patient manages these constant conflicts with responses as unique as they are themselves. Witnessing this firsthand has made me more resilient, aware, and better equipped to help my patients.

What would you like your legacy as a physician to be?

I want to be remembered for the relationships I built with my patients. I hope they see me as someone who took the time to understand their priorities, was kind and compassionate, and was a partner in their care.

Where is your favorite place you’ve ever visited?

My husband and I traveled to Japan in 2019 and we loved everything about it. There was so much history and the culture was so different from anywhere we’d been before. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom and we ate countless sushi rolls and bowls of ramen. We’ve been planning our trip back since we left, and we can’t wait to take our daughters along next time.

What are you regularly tuning into right now?

I’m a sucker for HBO. I just finished White Lotus and am currently re-watching the first two seasons of Succession, awaiting the third season this fall. Besides television, my guilty pleasure is listening to the Musers on the Ticket during my morning commute.
