Texas Oncology–The Woodlands Radiation Center Opens to Patients

November 11, 2019

Texas Oncology–The Woodlands Radiation Center opened its doors in October 2019 to provide high-quality radiation services to local cancer patients. With the addition of the new 15,000-square-foot radiation facility, Texas Oncology–The Woodlands became a comprehensive cancer center offering both medical and radiation oncology.

Christine Lee, M.D., gynecologic oncologist at Texas Oncology–The Woodlands, was instrumental in advocating for the facility, initiating its development, and guiding it to completion. At the grand opening celebration, Dr. Lee spoke to guests about the unique offerings of the new facility and its value to patients and the local community. “I, and I know I speak for my colleagues, am incredibly excited for this new chapter. I’m confident this radiation center will be among the top tier in Texas,” said Dr. Lee.

The new facility offers a wide range of radiation services, and is equipped with leading-edge radiation technology, upgraded exam rooms, and a newly-designed radiation vault, housing its linear accelerator. In addition, the site offers stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for brain and spine cancers, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), and brachytherapy for many cancer types, including gynecologic cancer. Omar Ishaq, M.D., radiation oncologist, who recently joined Texas Oncology, will treat radiation patients at the site.

I am incredibly excited for this new chapter. I’m confident this radiation center will be among the top tier in Texas.”

Dr. Ishaq, physicians and staff from Texas Oncology–The Woodlands, and leadership, including Michael Seiden, M.D., Ph.D., president of The US Oncology Network, and R. Steven Paulson, M.D., president and chairman of the board for Texas Oncology, invited members of the community to celebrate the center’s grand opening. Guests toured the facility, met with Dr. Ishaq and other staff, and viewed the new radiation equipment.

“The opening of this center is really a testament to Dr. Lee’s persistency, and the dedication of her, and the entire team here in the Woodlands, to bettering the lives of patients” Dr. Paulson said. “They’ve done impressive work in such a short time.”

Dr. Seiden, who also sees patients at Texas Oncology–The Woodlands, said the new facility is a product of the hard work put in by Dr. Lee, advocates within the network, and many of the other physicians and staff members. “There are so many people to thank – but all the hard work shows. This facility will further the quality of care we’re able to provide for our patients,” Dr. Seiden said.

As a comprehensive cancer center, Texas Oncology–The Woodlands now serves patients in medical oncology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy all under one roof. The new radiation center provides patients with the convenience of receiving radiation therapy locally, near their other cancer care providers and the vital support of their loved ones.
