Dr. Russell Hoverman Addresses Independent Clinical Oncology Network in South Africa

September 20, 2016

The physicians and cancer patients of the Independent Clinical Oncology Network (ICON) and South Africa face many of the same issues that we do here in Texas. There is disparity in insurance coverage. Access for some is difficult. There is variation in treatment recommendations. There is little understanding of evidence and value among both public and private insurers. And, costs for healthcare across all sectors continue to rise.

With these pressures, ICON became interested in the Texas Oncology-US Oncology pathways program. In August, ICON invited Texas Oncology’s Vice President of Quality Programs, Dr. Russell Hoverman, to speak at their biennial conference in Johannesburg about innovative approaches that Texas Oncology is implementing to improve cancer care.

“They have made great progress – as have we – in pioneering team-based and patient centric models for delivering cancer care. When we make our processes better, our patients receive a better experience and improved care,” said Hoverman.
