Texas Oncology–Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center Gynecologic Oncology Welcomes Jessica Gillen

December 17, 2024
Jessica Gillen, M.D., is now seeing patients at Texas Oncology–Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Gillen discusses the important role of clinical trials in advancing gynecologic cancer care and her favorite music genres.

1. What inspired you to specialize in gynecologic oncology?
As a medical student, I really enjoyed my general surgery rotation, but also loved the strong relationships I saw between OB-GYNs and their patients. During my fourth year of medical school, I was on a gynecologic oncology rotation and learned that this specialty provides the best of both worlds. I truly enjoy the breadth of gynecologic oncology as well as the privilege to build long lasting relationships with my patients as we navigate their treatment.

2. What advancements are you most looking forward to as gynecologic cancer care continues to evolve?
I’m most excited about the growing clinical trial opportunities for our patients. Clinical trials are key to providing better and more effective care for those with gynecologic cancers. I’m honored to play a role in ensuring my patients have access to leading-edge therapies.

3. What do you want your patients to know about you?
I want my patients to know that I’m here to support them and their families throughout the entirety of their treatment. I think it’s so important that patients or caregivers don’t feel alone during what can be a very difficult time. I also want my patients to know how grateful I am for the opportunity to serve the Dallas community where I grew up.

4. Outside of work, what do you enjoy spending your time doing?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, especially now that I’m back home in Dallas. I also love to try new restaurants, watch a good Netflix series, travel, hike, and spend time outdoors.

5. What is your favorite music genre and why?
I enjoy most types of music, anything upbeat and fun!

6. Coffee or tea?
I prefer coffee.
