Texas Oncology To Meet Increased Need for Cancer Care With New Comprehensive Cancer Center in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Texas (June 15, 2022) – Texas Oncology has broken ground on a new 32,000-square-foot cancer care center that will enhance the level of cancer care available to patients in Southeast Texas. Located on the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth hospital campus, the new comprehensive cancer center will provide medical oncology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology, chemotherapy, genetic counseling, and lab services, as well as provide clinical trials. Radiation services will be provided in collaboration with CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth.

“Texas Oncology has a longstanding commitment to caring for cancer patients in Southeast Texas, as it was among the first to provide oncology services in Beaumont more than 30 years ago,” said Scott A. McKenney, M.D., FACP, medical director and medical oncologist and hematologist at Texas Oncology–Beaumont. “With the new center, we will be able to increase access to leading edge cancer care, allowing patients to receive high-quality care with minimal disruption to their lives.”

The new cancer center is a significant expansion for Texas Oncology–Beaumont, doubling the number of infusion chairs available to patients. The center also will feature the newest generation Varian TrueBeam® linear accelerator for radiation treatment. An on-site medically integrated pharmacy, fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Healthcare, will provide convenient, customized service in filling prescriptions and assisting patients with managing medications, such as immunotherapy.

“As a community-based cancer care provider, we want our patients in Beaumont—and everywhere in Texas—to have access to cancer care provided in modern facilities designed to enhance the overall patient experience,” said Steven Paulson, M.D., president and chairman of the board for Texas Oncology. “We are committed to investing in our facilities in the communities we serve to better meet the growing need for cancer care.”

President and chief executive officer of CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth, Paul Trevino, said, “Unfortunately, a cancer diagnosis is the reality of just too many. It’s because of that great need that we are dedicated to caring for patients where they live, without the need for unnecessary travel, so they have the critical support of loved ones nearby throughout the course of their treatment. Through our collaboration with Texas Oncology, CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth can continue to offer high quality, compassionate care to our community and effectively meet the increasing need for cancer care as the ministry grows.”

The new cancer center, located at 3010 Harrison Avenue, is being developed by Cottonwood Development, and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. serves as the general contractor. The new center will open in the spring of 2023.
