Texas Oncology-Austin Brain Tumor Center Welcomes Dr. Charles Conrad

Neuro-Oncologist from MD Anderson Expands Access to Quality Care, Innovation

AUSTIN — Renowned neuro-oncologist Charles Conrad, M.D., has joined the leading-edge cancer care and research team at the Texas Oncology–Austin Brain Tumor Center. Dr. Conrad comes to Austin from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center where he has served as a Professor for the departments of neuro-oncology and experimental therapeutics, medical director of the Brain and Spine Center, and director of clinical operations for the department of neuro-oncology.

Dr. Conrad and a team of physicians and medical professionals work in close collaboration with Dr. Morris Groves, who established the Texas Oncology–Austin Brain Tumor Center four years ago to provide patients more convenient access to advanced, patient-centered cancer care and innovative clinical trials.

“The Texas Oncology–Austin Brain Tumor Center is a leader in brain cancer research and innovation,” said Dr. Conrad. “I look forward to delivering brain cancer treatment and related services here in Austin, allowing Central Texans to stay close to home near their vital support systems as they fight cancer.”

With a combined more than 40 years of experience, Dr. Conrad and Dr. Groves help patients fight aggressive cancers with some of the most promising clinical trials in the nation through Texas Oncology’s affiliation with US Oncology Research.

“Dr. Conrad’s vast experience and expertise, and his deep knowledge of brain tumor cancer biology are unique assets as we work to discover more effective treatments for brain cancer through clinical trials and data research here in Austin,” said Dr. Groves. “Our goal is nothing less than curing these terrible diseases, and as we pursue that lofty aim, we will provide hope for the patients who walk through our doors.”

Dr. Conrad received his medical doctorate from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston where he also trained as an intern in internal medicine, resident in neurology. He completed his fellowship in neuro-oncology at MD Anderson where he later rose to the level of Professor. Dr. Conrad is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

He was ranked among the prestigious Best Doctors in America by Best Doctors Inc., in 2007-2008, 2011-2012, and 2013. Dr. Conrad has served as principal investigator, co-principal investigator, and collaborator in dozens of research trials and patent explorations; published numerous medical and research articles; and addressed conferences across the globe.

Dr. Conrad is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Association for Cancer Research, American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society for Neuro-Oncology, and North American Brain Tumor Consortium.
