Sugar Land Resident Celebrating 10 Years of Cancer Survival

Publication: Fort Bend Star, Sugar Land

The Texas Cancer Registry expects Texas women to be diagnosed with more than 55,000 cases of cancer in 2014. Many of these women will be already moms, and many may hope to be moms soon. For cancer survivors like Kendra Stratton, simply being there every night to tuck your kid into bed can be blessing.

For longtime Sugar Land resident Kendra, this mother’s day is especially meaningful. It’s not because this is her first – she has a five-year old girl and a 10-month-old boy – or because she is sharing motherhood for the first time with her twin sister. This year, she is celebrating her 10 year anniversary of cancer survival with two precious kids.

As a newlywed, Kendra was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2003. Soon after her completion of chemo and radiation therapies at Texas Oncology – Sugar Land, her husband Nelson was diagnosed with colon cancer. Even under these challenging circumstances, Kendra never lost her hope or confidence in becoming a mom one day under the care of Dr. Vivek Kavadi. Celebrating her 10th anniversary means less frequent check-ups for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. And although she enjoys seeing her extended family at Texas Oncology, she’ll now have even more time to spend with her kids.
