Over 100 Texans have become sick with measles recently. To protect our patients and staff, we ask that patients and caregivers avoid coming in to our clinics if they have been near someone with measles, have been diagnosed with measles, or have any symptoms of infection like a fever or a rash. If any of these apply to you and you have a visit booked, please contact your clinic to let them know and book a virtual visit (telehealth) instead. New Noninvasive Liver Tumor Treatment Available in Austin

Publication: Austin American-Statesman

Shaun P. McKenzie, M.D., FACS, Texas Oncology Surgical Specialists-Round Rock and South Austin joined an exclusive interview with the Austin American-Statesman to discuss a new non-invasive procedure for liver cancer: histotripsy.

This technique uses robot-guided, targeted ultrasound waves to destroy the tumor. The body then reabsorbs the dead tumor cells. It doesn't require any surgical cuts, but the person has to be anesthetized to allow for controlled shallowed breathing because the liver is close to the diaphragm and moves with every breath.

This coverage originally appeared in the Austin American-Statesman as a video and in a full article here.
