Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer

With the wide variety of radiation therapies available to prostate cancer patients, Texas Oncology in the Fort Worth area can help determine which treatment is right for you. Our radiation oncologists use advanced treatment planning systems and leading edge radiation technology to deliver radiation to cancerous cells.

As you research different therapies, our radiation team is here to explain your options and create a tailored plan for you in your fight against prostate cancer. Some of the radiation therapy options available to you through Texas Oncology include:

  • Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT): This advanced technology is a non-invasive procedure that delivers targeted radiation at very high doses with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Three-dimensional imaging is used to locate the tumor within the body and define its location, exact size, and shape. Malignant and metastatic tumors may shrink more rapidly, and often with as few as five treatments.
  • Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy & Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (RapidArc & IMRT): An advanced form of non-invasive radiation treatment enabling radiation oncologists to specifically target tumor cells. By using image guided technologies, your radiation oncologist can localize your treatment and minimize damage to surrounding tissue.
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT): This technology provides image guidance and verification capabilities for more accurate radiation delivery.
  • Low Dose Rate (LDR) Brachytherapy: This treatment involves the implantation of radioactive seeds into the prostate. The radioactive seeds give off low doses of radiation for a period of time.
