She received her MSN/FNP degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 2000. She received her BSN degree from University of Texas at Austin in 1998 and her Diploma in Nursing from Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing in Austin, Texas in 1977.

She is a member of American Nurses Association, Texas Nurses Association, and the Oncology Nursing Society. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing and Epsilon Theta Chapter as well as a member of the Centex Chapter of the American Red Cross.
