Exclusive: North Texas’ First Proton Cancer Center Staffed Up, Set to Open in Irving

North Texas’ first cancer center using proton beam therapy is on pace to open over the next two months, and has filled its medical staff with some top names in the field.

The $111 million Texas Center for Proton Therapy will start seeing patients in October and start treating them in November, said Dr. Andrew Lee, medical director at the Irving facility.

Lee, the first physician in North America to treat patients with pencil-beam scanning proton therapy, launched proton treatment at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston nine years ago. He joined the Texas Center for Proton Therapy in January following a global search.
