Texas Oncology Expands Reach for Austin Cancer Trials

Publication: Austin Business Journal, Austin

Texas Oncology, which has three locations in Austin, has been selected to join the Gynecologic Oncology Group, a system of more than 50 cancer institutions that collaborate on clinical and translational research funded by the National Cancer Institute.

Membership in the group means Texas Oncology will be able to add trials for cancer of the ovaries, uterus and cervix to its portfolio of research. The Austin market was chosen as a primary member institution – Fort Worth, Houston and Dallas received affiliate site designations – and as a result, women in Austin will be able to participate in experimental and promising cancer treatments seeking approval.

“This gives patients in Austin access to fantastic therapies,” said Dr. Michael Teneriello, an Austin oncologist who has been named lead principal investigator with Texas Oncology. “These trials take years to do and you can only do them in places that have the proper infrastructure to handle them.”
