Unique collaboration gives West Texas cancer patients comfort and hope

Texas Oncology is a community-based provider, treating cancer patients near the critical support of family and friends through more than 175 locations across the state. When patients visit the Texas Oncology-Midland Allison Cancer Center, they discover a remarkable level of care, convenient services, and thoughtful amenities, many of which are available through a partnership with local non-profit Gifts of Hope.

The collaboration assists patients throughout their cancer journey with support services that go beyond treatment. Each month, Texas Oncology-Midland Allison Cancer Center and Gifts of Hope host a “New Beginnings” Lunch & Learn workshop that provides information on coping with cancer, self-care, nutrition, and more.

In addition, stage 4 cancer patients may attend the Helping Hands Metastatic Cancer Support Group to share their experiences and to gain strength and love from those following a similar path.

The partnership with Gifts of Hope has also made an on-site “Look-Good Feel-Good” shop a reality. The shop helps cancer patients look and feel their best during and after treatment with wigs, makeup tutorials, skin care, and other beautification resources.

“As a cancer patient, I benefited greatly from a number of complimentary services offered at Texas Oncology,” said patient Tonya Coker. “The compassion and concern they showed me from my initial visit on, helped me and my family during a very challenging time. I’m forever grateful for the love demonstrated by the incredible people at Texas Oncology and Gifts of Hope.”

Gifts of Hope also assists patients in many other ways, including transportation, volunteers serving lunch in the infusion room, and adopting families in need during the holidays. The nonprofit also provides free lodging for out-of-town cancer patients and their caregivers at beautiful Hope House that is adjacent to the cancer center.

The collaboration between the Texas Oncology-Midland Allison Cancer Center and Gifts of Hope is another example of how we’re focused on doing the right thing for patients by putting them at the center of everything we do.
