7/18/2024 - While receiving radiation treatment from Justin W. Wray, M.D., Ph.D., Texas Oncology-Waco, Fiona Bond, CEO of Creative Waco, was inspired to create a gallery of photography featuring local murals created by students in Creative Waco’s ARTPrenticeship program. The now display in Waco’s radiation wing, exam rooms and waiting room features art projects that Waco residents are familiar with – bringing patients a sense of comfort and community to patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Amy, a high school teacher, shares how she balanced school and treatment, how her family was her best support system, and how her cancer treatment even inspired her daughter to become a nurse.

8/30/2023 - Back-to-school season can be hectic, especially for parents and caretakers with cancer. Kelli Volcik, breast cancer patient of Thomas J. Harris, M.D., Texas Oncology–Groesbeck and Waco, shares with KCEN-TV how she managed treatment while still being present. With her family, friends and community surrounding her, Volcik has been able to make it through the hardest times and still take care of her children, especially when it comes to going back to school. Now she wants to help others.

2/2/2023 - The recent survey by Texas Oncology, “EveryBody Has a Story,” reveals the hidden impact of a cancer diagnosis and treatment on a patient’s mental health. Texas Oncology’s Stephanie B. Broussard, LCSW-S, APHSW-C, director of social work and palliative care at Texas Oncology, and Carl G. Chakmakjian, D.O., FACP, Texas Oncology–Gatesville, Mexia and Waco, shared with the WACOAN the need for support beyond medical treatment for cancer patients and how others can provide the much needed aid for their loved one going through treatment.

With more than 28 million Americans living with diabetes today, it is important that those impacted by this condition are aware of their risk for developing pancreatic cancer. Thomas J. Dr. Chakmakjian explains how men typically present with more advanced disease than women, which is why awareness of this disease among men is very important, top risk factors for men and more.

7/16/2022 - The Greater Waco Chamber announced its 2022 Waco Under 40 honorees, naming Dr. Tyler Snedden, Texas Oncology—Waco and Horizon Circle, as one of the honorees. The Waco Under 40 program is geared to identify local leaders under the age of 40, and encourage young people to become leaders. A ceremony recognizing the honorees will take place on November 3.
