Texas Oncology Supports Cancer Patients in Wake of Hurricane Harvey

Ted McGehee’s scheduled chemotherapy appointment was all set for early September. Little did he know that both he and Houston had a different kind of appointment that week. This one with destiny as Hurricane Harvey made landfall and completely flooded the city – and many local cancer centers.

In the midst of that disaster, Ted faced another one: finding a place to get treatment. He was in pain and unsure where to go. That’s when he reached out to Texas Oncology for help. With support from employees across the network, Texas Oncology–Frisco was able to quickly open its doors – and arms – to Ted, providing him with the care he needed within a day.

“For me, it was a pretty amazing experience and I’m really grateful for everything that has been done,” McGehee said. “They blew me away with how quickly they were able to take charge. The team in Frisco really cared for me and supported my family during a vulnerable time.”

The quick and effective response showed how Texas Oncology’s statewide family came together to put patients first, despite any challenges, including one of history’s most devastating hurricanes.
