Clark Alex Wilson, M.D., is now seeing patients at Texas Urology Specialists–Austin Midtown. He discusses the role of personalized cancer care, and shares what he’s learned from his patients about the human spirit.
What excites you most about joining an organization like Texas Urology Specialists?
Texas Urology Specialists is a part of Texas Oncology, one of the top providers of specialty medical care in Texas. This means we have the resources of a large-scale cancer center available in local community settings. In addition to treating all urological issues, I can also work closely with colleagues across many specialties. This also streamlines communication between providers. For example, we have started a city-wide genitourinary tumor board and can get input on complex cases from many of our peer providers, and then discuss these recommendations with our patients.
What has working with cancer patients taught you about resiliency in the human spirit?
Working with cancer patients has shown me that people are far stronger than others realize. As physicians, we are privileged to help people through some of the biggest challenges they will ever face.

What are you most looking forward to as cancer treatment continues to evolve?
I am looking forward to the increasing personalization of cancer therapies. We are beginning to see this in multiple cancers. Hopefully, we will be able to use genomic testing to provide further information on the best treatment for every patient in the not-too-distant future.

Where is your favorite place you’ve ever visited?
Puerto Rico is my favorite travel destination; from Old San Juan to Vieques, it is an amazing place to visit.
